Overview

The Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a species of Old World parrot (family Psittaculidae) in the order parrots (Psittaciformes) of bird (class Aves).

Description

A medium-sized parrot with long tail. Very bright and colorful. Green upper parts, with dark-blue head. The chest is orange/yellow, and the belly and head are deep blue. The bill is red. Males and females look identical.

Range

Found in rainforest, coastal bush and woodland areas in eastern Australia from northern Queensland to South Australia. Introduced to Western Australia, Tasmania, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
