Overview

The Coconut Lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) is a species of Old World parrot (family Psittaculidae) in the order parrots (Psittaciformes) of bird (class Aves).

Description

A long-tailed lorikeet, mostly green, with dark-blue head. The breast is red with blue-black barring, and the belly is green with yellow barring. The bill is orange-red. Sexes are similar. The male's iris is bright red, while the female's is orange-red.

Range

Found in eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
