Death Valley National Park

Death Valley National Park is located in Inyo and San Bernardino counties in the state of California, and Nye and Esmeralda counties in the state of Nevada, United States. The park protects a diverse environment of salt-flats, sand dunes, badlands, valleys, canyons and mountains.

Death Valley is the largest national park in the contiguous United States, as well as the hottest, driest and lowest of all the national parks in the United States.

Park Purpose

As stated in the foundation document:

The purpose of Death Valley National Park, homeland of the Timbisha Shoshone, is to preserve natural and cultural resources, exceptional wilderness, scenery, and learning experiences within the nation’s largest conserved desert landscape and some of the most extreme climate and topographic conditions on the planet.
