Overview

The Scaly-sided Merganser (Mergus squamatus) is a species of waterfowl (family Anatidae) in the order Anseriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

Sleek diving duck with a bright orange-red bill, a long, shaggy crest and scaled dark pattern on the flanks and rump. Males have black head and a black-and-white back. Females have a brown head and gray back.

Range

Found near rivers in primary forest in Manchuria and extreme Southeast Siberia.
