Overview

The Green Kingfisher (Chloroceryle americana) is a species of kingfisher (family Alcedinidae) in the order Coraciiformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

A small kingfisher with short tail and long bill. Green above with white markings on the wings and tail and a white collar around the neck. Male have a rufous breast, while the female breast is buff-white with two green chest bands.

Range

Found by streams in forests or mangroves from southern Texas in the United States south through Central and South America to central Argentina.
