Overview

The Common Goldeneye (Bucephala clangula) is a species of waterfowl (family Anatidae) in the order Anseriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

A medium-sized sea duck. Adults are similar in appearance to Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica). Adult males have a dark greenish head and a circular white face patch. Adult females have a brown head and mostly grey body. Both seses have a golden-yellow eye and orange-yellow legs and feet.

Range

Found in lakes and rivers of boreal forests across Canada, northern United States and Europe.
