Overview

The Canvasback (Aythya valisineria) is a species of waterfowl (family Anatidae) in the order Anseriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

The largest species of diving duck found in North America. Similar in size to a mallard. Both sexes have a distinctive triangular head that slopes into the long black bill. Males have a white body, black chest, reddish-brown head, and red eye. Females are dull grayish-brown with unique head profile and dark brown eye.
