Overview

The Blue-winged Teal (Spatula discors) is a species of waterfowl (family Anatidae) in the order Anseriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

Small dabbling duck with blue patches on the upperwing. Breeding males have a bold white facial crescent, light brown body and polka-dotted sides. Females are mottled brown with a whitish area at base of the bill.

Range

Found in marshes and ponds in North America.
