The Altamira Oriole (Icterus gularis) is a passerine (order Passeriformes) species of bird (class Aves) in the troupials and allies family (Icteridae). It is a New World oriole (genus Icterus).
It is the largest oriole in its genus. Adults are flame-orange on the front and head, with black mandible and throat, as well as a black back and long black tail. White highlights in the wings and a distinctive orange patch at the shoulder.
Found in subtropical lowlands of the Mexican Gulf Coast and northern Central America and north to the the Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States.
