Overview

The Southern Ground-hornbill (Bucorvus leadbeateri) is a species of ground-hornbill (family Bucorvidae) in the order Bucerotiformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

The largest species of hornbill. Black overall with vivid red patches of bare skin on the face and throat and a large black beak. males are generally larger. Females have a violet-blue skin on their throat.

Range

Found in southern regions of Africa, ranging from Kenya to South Africa.
