The Rufous-winged Sparrow (Peucaea carpalis) is a passerine (order Passeriformes) species of bird (class Aves) in the new-world sparrow family (Passerellidae).
Small bird with conical pale yellow bill and long brown tail. The back is brown with darker streaks, while the belly is unstreaked pale gray. Paler throat is edged with thin dark lines. Gray head and neck with peaked rufous crown and rufous eyeline. An often concealed roufous shoulder patch for which it is named.
Found year-round in brushy desert grasslands from south-central Arizona, south to northern Sinaloa, Mexico.
