Overview

The Ruffed Grouse (Bonasa umbellus) is a species of bird (class Aves) in the family Phasianidae and order Galliformes.

Description

A chunky, medium-sized game bird with a short crest. Well-camouflaged with grayish-brown or reddish-brown, barred and spotted plumage.

Range

Found in mixed woodland from the Appalachian Mountains in the United States across Canada to Alaska. It is non-migratory.
