Overview

The Lark Bunting (Calamospiza melanocorys) is a passerine (order Passeriformes) species of bird (class Aves) in the new world sparrow family (Passerellidae).

Description

A small songbird and medium-sized new world sparrow, with a short, thick, bluish bill. Breeding males are: mostly black with a bold white wing patch. Nonbreeding males and females are streaky brown with a white wing patch.

Range

Found in central and western North America.
