Overview

The King Vulture (Sarcoramphus papa) is a species of new world vulture (family Cathartidae) in the order Cathartiformes of bird (class Aves). Excluding condors, it is the largest of the New World vultures and is the only surviving member of the genus Sarcoramphus.

Description

Large with predominantly white plumage contrasting with black trailing edge to the wings and tail. The colourful head and neck are devoid of feathers. Eyes are white and the bill is oarange and black. Sexes are similar.

Range

Found in tropical lowland forests of Central and South America stretching from southern Mexico to northern Argentina.
