Overview

The Harris's Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) is a species of hawk (family Accipitridae) in the order Accipitriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

A medium-large hawk, dark brown overall with rufous shoulders and thighs. The tail is black with white tip and base. Long, yellow legs and yellow cere. Sexes are similar in coloration, females being about 35% larger.

Range

Found in deserts and scrubby open woodland from the southwestern United States south to Chile, central Argentina, and Brazil.
