Overview

The Franklin’s Gull (Leucophaeus pipixcan) is a species of gull (family Laridae) in the order Charadriiformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

Medium-sized gull with a white body and grey back and wings. Breeding plumage shows black head which is mostly lost in winter. The bill and legs are red. Sexes are similar.

Range

Found in in the lakes and marshes in the prairies of north-central North America, wintering Argentina, the Caribbean, Chile, and Peru.
