Overview

The Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) is a species of caracara (family Falconidae) in the order Falconiformes of bird (class Aves). It is a large raptor of open habitats.

Description

A large raptor, Dark cap, pale neck and dark body. Face color varies from orange-red to pale pink and pale greyish bill. White flashes in wings and tail during flight.

Range

Found in open fields, deserts and beaches from the southern United States, throughout South America..
