Overview

The Common Black Hawk (Buteogallus anthracinus) is a species of hawk (family Accipitridae) in the order Accipitriformes of bird (class Aves).

Description

Mainly black or dark gray overall with a black bill and yellow legs and cere. The tail is short with a single broad white band and a white tip. Sexes are similar.

Range

Found from the Southwestern United States through Central America to Venezuela and Peru.
