Overview

The Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia) is a species of tern (family Laridae) in the order Charadriiformes of bird (class Aves). It is the world's largest tern.

Description

Large tern with thick, bright-red bill with a small black tip. Black legs. White head with a black cap and white neck, belly, and tail. In winter the black cap has white streaking.

Range

Widespread around the world in large lakes and ocean coasts.
