Overview

The Buff-bellied Hummingbird (Amazilia yucatanensis) is a species of hummingbird (family Trochilidae) in the order Nightbirds (Caprimulgiformes) of birds (class Aves).

Description

A medium-sized hummingbird with a red bill that is black at the tip with rufous tail and primary wings. Males have a metallic golden green throat. Females have a darker upper bill and are less colourful than the male.

Range

Found near the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, from Texas in the United States through the Yucatán Peninsula of eastern Mexico, ending in northern Belize and northwestern Guatemala in Central America.
