Bearded Barbet

Pogonornis dubius

The Bearded Barbet (Pogonornis dubius) is a species of African Barbet (family Lybiidae) in the order (Piciformes) of bird (class Aves).

Description

A large, colorful barbet with a short neck, large head and a shortish tail with a black crown, back, tail and breast band, red throat and belly, a white rump and a yellow eye patch. The thick large bill is a pale yellow bill with a clump of bristles at its base. Sexes are similar.

Range

Found in a variety of habitats, including moist and dry savanna and woodlands in tropical west Africa.
