Carlsbad Caverns National Park is located in the Guadalupe Mountains near the city of Carlsbad, in Eddy County, in the state of New Mexico, United States. The park protects over 119 caves, three of which are open to the public, Carlsbad Caverns being the most famous.

Park Purpose

As stated in the foundation document:

The purpose of Carlsbad Caverns National Park, a World Heritage Site, is to preserve and protect an internationally recognized Permian reef, superlative cave and karst resources, ecosystems, wilderness, and diverse cultural heritage for the enjoyment of the people.
