Congaree National Park

Congaree National Park is located in Richland county, in the state of South Carolina, United States. The park preserves the largest remaining tract of southern old growth bottomland forest left in the United States.

Park Purpose

As stated in the foundation document:

Congaree National Park protects, studies, and interprets the resources, history, stories, and wilderness character of the nation’s largest remaining tract of southern old growth bottomland forest and its associated ecosystems.
